What does Dominic Cummings want and what did he get into the Tory Manifesto?
What does Dominic Cummings want is a question I have been asking myself a lot since Friday; the best answer I have so far is that he is a sociopath who gets a kick out of controlling people and achieving whatever aim he sets his mind to, so I was interested to read this Medium piece by Nicolas Holzapfel.

I agree with much in this article. It is extremely well written and also key reading for anyone who wants to understand my concerns regarding democracy.
However I do not agree with the headline. Why not? Cummings -as he does so well- has skilfully tapped into and manipulated the public mood. At first almost nobody was backing him. But #BackDom was a recent Twitter trend. A man called in to BBC 5 Live after Cummings' speech saying - paraphrased from memory - 'The more I hear from Dominic Cummings the more I like him'. The man's granddaughter was recovering from cancer treatment, he said, had recently flown back from the US. She lived with her parents. The grandparents had been driving over to visit her most days during lockdown. He empathised with Dominic Cummings and believed they shared core values: they were both men who put family first. See also: autism trend (40k tweets I recall - that may be off but I remember thinking it was a lot) on Sunday night stemming from just one tweet from an account (made Sept 2017) that has now been deleted. Many (apparently parents of neurotypical children) were then finding support for DC. Parents of autistic children were enraged - they had struggled through.
